ARTICLES I WANTED (BUT DIDN’T GET A CHANCE) TO READ THIS WEEK: PART 27
it’s bloody cold out. it’s even supposed to snow tonight. don’t go outside. not even to meet your friends (unless it’s at your apartment, where you can wear flannel pajamas and fuzzy socks). instead, stay in and catch up on these great reads.
note: if you are visiting me this weekend, i will greet you in fuzzy pajamas and flannel socks. or something. i’ll also make goat cheese croissant swirls (the frozen ones from Trader Joe’s).
TO READ:
- The Guardian did a very beautiful series of photos on soldiers before and after they’d been in Afghanistan. look through it and feel something more than complacency
- Lady Maura took her brilliance out on Lana Del Rey’s SNL performance, Sound of the City
- did you hear the one about the Pinkberry founder beating a homeless man with a tire iron? you might not want to if, like me, you love their yogurt best
- if you thought about moving to Beirut because you like the band that bears its name, this Hairpin article is for you
- bless his ginger heart, internet writer Tyler Coates saw “Joyful Noise.” i appreciate his film opinion all the more since he, like me, did not like “The Descendants”
- about a “controversial” person named Caitlin Flanagan. only read up on her if you plan to hang out with media types this weekend and want to know what they’re talking about. an easier route, just change the subject to “30 Rock.” or stay home in your fuzzies
- catch up on what the critics have to say about music with this year’s Pazz and Jop list from the Village Voice
- MY STORY (!!!) about the latest trend of optical e-tailers, the likes of Warby Parker, Vision Monday
- a similar story about the latest trend of optical e-tailers the NYTimes wrote this week (mine’s better, right?)
- David Lynch loves coffee, A WHOLE LOT, Huffington Post
- a beautifully explained article on how reality stars are raking it in with the endorsement deals and how you can too! NYMag
- proof that talking to writers is always awkward - especially when you’re talking to them about additions, CapitalNY
- more writers and their addictions, Foster Kamer says “Goodbye to Adderall That,” (PUN!) Observer
- Carles says goodbye to Lana Del Rey (i think?), in what could be a dissertation on “New Media,” HIPSTER RUNOFF
TO WATCH/LISTEN:
- enjoy the overwhelming crazy throughout this photo set of darling Paz (de la Huerta)
- have you heard Coeur de Pirate yet? do it now!
- “Thank You,” the latest video from saucy lady singer Estelle
- a darling video about maintaining passion in the creative field: “When To Take My Name Off The Door”
- proving that we are all the worst type of people, “Shit New Yorkers Say”
- proving that i was born with disco glitter in my hair, “Shit Liza Minelli Says” (“HALSTON!”)
- and my favorite Etta James song, because she was lovely. RIP, dear lady
TO BUY ME:
- un billet to see lovely Coeur de Pirate at Highline Ballroom at the end of the month, s’il vous plait
- a pack of David Lynch coffee
