Award-winning filmmaker showcases Asian influence
my friend Andy and i were in homeroom together for four years. this week, his film showed at Sundance, where Anthony Mackie threw him a party, and today, our hometown paper wrote a story on him. the similarities between us really ended at homeroom.
despite years of living in the same city, i very rarely see Andy (getting Columbia people below 110th St. is as difficult as getting Brooklynites to the UWS). i’d always get a late night message from him asking me to watch one clip or another, to vote for this video and that; i’ve never seen someone so completely dedicated to their dream.
Andy gets back this week from the excitement out west and i’ll hopefully get to hear all about it. of course, i’m wildly jealous of his success but also insanely thrilled it’s finally happening for him.
