goodbye, darling roommate
you may have noticed i write with some regularity about my darling roommate. darling roommate is not to be confused with darling kikikins (my other lovely roommate). darling roommate is a wonderful man named matt connolly whose love of film has produced equally wonderful writings for Slant and AltScreen, among others. read them, they’re all spectacular.
unfortunately, matt’s love of film also means that as of sunday, he will no longer be my darling roommate. he is leaving new york for the wide world of madison, wisconsin to begin a phd program in film studies. taking matt far away from us is just one of the many things wisconsin has done wrong this year, but to me, it is the most egregious.
i will be spending this weekend soaking up all the roommate time i can get in but tonight, we will be officially sending off him with a proper bon voyage party - one i am sure to cry through at least once.
in the months ahead, i have no doubt i will miss matt even more than i realize right now.
not one to let a little internet research go to waste, here are some i found, in case you’re in the market for one:
just below this building with the bluish windows is a strip club called scandals. just next to scandals is our very most favorite chinese takeout place, cheng (which we call cheng’s because it sounds better). go there. or get their takeout. just don’t ask for the shrimp with snow peas because snow peas are amazingly elusive and cheng’s only has them maybe once every two months. and they’re mine!

however, there is now an abundance of basil in my refrigerator. what else can one do with basil besides put a shit-ton of it in pasta sauce (which i already did)???
i’ve officially surpassed my own record, going seven weeks without doing laundry. happy to report it’s all clean now though. only took three hours and five loads to complete.
now on to the ironing…
shared by darling roommate on fb, this slideshow was amazing! as someone who has never so much as tried on a jumpsuit, la lopez and her seemingly infinite fierceness has certainly inspired me to don one proudly. i plan to strut around the apartment in this sequin number, complete with platform stilettos starting next week
so i’m in the market for a new couch leg. our dear friend broke it when trying to fit our new couch through the apt door and we’ve been without one for a year and a half now. during that time, it’s been resting on some magazines, an old science textbook and a dictionary. they’ve done fine but it’s time to make like heather mills and get a replacement (though not in time for our couch’s “dancing with the stars” premiere).
look, there’s a whole web site of replacement couch legs over at Sofa Leg Warehouse. this one is closest to what we have. though it’ll never be quite the same
